Syria demands from Israel to free ailing captive |
||
The Syrian Foreign Ministry sent on Tuesday official memos to the U.N. Secretary General, Chairperson of the U.N. General Assembly, Chairman and to members of the U.N. Security Council, and to the Human Rights Higher Committee, stressing the deteriorating health conditions of Syrian captive, Bishr alMaqt, a citizen from the occupied Syrian Golan, at the Israeli prison of Jalbou. According to SANA, the Syrian foreign ministry demanded an immediate intervention by the U.N. in order to force Israel to provide medical care and tests for alMaqt, and to act for his release along with other Syrian mates whose periods of detention have exceeded 22 years. The memo said that in a similar case earlier, Israeli "cruel and arbitrary detention of Syrian captive" Hayiel Abu-Zaid led to his death in 2005.
The memo also called on the international community to take the necessary measures to force Israel to respect Geneva agreements. Al Bawaba |
